Dental Inlays
Precise and aesthetic treatments to restore the functionality of your teeth.
What are dental crowns or dental caps?
Dental inlays partially restore posterior teeth that have been affected by cavities or fractures.
It is a conservative treatment that in the past was done with gold but was discontinued due to its unattractive appearance. Nowadays, they are becoming popular again due to the existence of 3D technology that allows them to be made with very aesthetic and durable materials.
It is a preparation method widely used at ENIQ because it is very conservative, in line with the new concepts of biomimetics, and thanks to successful adhesive dentistry, we can now always add and never subtract. This is possible thanks to the development of materials and adhesive techniques.
What are the advantages and how long do dental crowns last?
The interesting thing about this procedure is that we ONLY ADD, we never subtract from the dental structure.
We place the lost tooth structure as if it were a Lego piece.
We digitally capture the tooth, which is like taking photographs of the tooth in your mouth. Then, we design it in our design software in about 15 minutes. While you enjoy a fresh cup of coffee, we mill it from the most suitable material for the case (about 15 minutes), and finally, we cement it in your mouth using the best materials on the market and strict protocols.
Types
What are the types of dental inlays?
Modern dentistry offers advanced solutions for restoring damaged teeth, such as dental inlays. These are classified into three types: Inlay, Onlay, and Overlay, each designed to address different levels of dental damage. These conservative techniques allow for the restoration of dental integrity with functional and aesthetic results.
There are three different types of inlays, depending on the extent of the tooth damage.
-
Inlay Inlay
This is the simplest type, as it does not involve repairing the dental cusp. We refer to the tip or raised portion of the tooth's crown.
-
Onlay Inlay
It is used to restore a cusp of the dental piece that has become weak after removing the cavity or fracture.
-
Overlay Inlay
These are made to cover all cusps, providing strength for chewing and preventing fractures.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have more questions about the dental inlay procedure?
No dental procedure should be painful, as there is anesthesia for that. Moreover, to avoid feeling even the injection, there are topical anesthesia and state-of-the-art mechanical injectors that are much less bothersome, as well as a dental laser program that sensitizes the area to be anesthetized, and even conscious sedation if the fear is too much.
The dental inlay, like everything in dentistry, is very durable if used correctly and proper hygiene is maintained.
They are made of very stable materials over time, and adhesive techniques, initially developed by NASA and in the aerospace industry, are becoming increasingly durable.
It is important that the professional who performs them has a solid understanding of occlusion, materials, and design concepts to ensure a successful treatment.
Each one is used for a different situation: crowns when there are large tooth destructions, restorations when the destruction is minimal, and inlays when the destruction is moderate and a conservative approach is desired. We love the latter at ENIQ because they preserve a lot of dental tissue, and when used with 3D systems, they are very precise and made from highly stable materials, as they come from blocks made under high pressure.
The proper use of all three alternatives is part of responsible dentistry.
Furthermore, for the use of the appropriate materials for these three options, it is important to request information from your dentist about all available alternatives.
Like all branches of medicine or health sciences, cases can be resolved in different ways, sometimes in very radical ways, other times in more conservative ways. Unfortunately, the conflict of interest when health becomes a business often leads to improper use of what is most convenient for the patient. There is an excess of diagnosis of endodontics, pins, and crowns trying to compensate for low price benchmarks.
That's why it's so important to educate patients and potential patients so they can participate in the process of selecting their treatments.
We recommend getting informed, seeking qualified professionals, and not falling for deceptive advertising of lifelong treatments or prices, as well as free treatments that are later charged for with additional treatments. The best way we can help you is by providing you with all the information we can.
